Henry S. Adams letters, 1862-1869; bulk: 1863.

Letters sent by 1st. Lieut. and Adjutant Henry S. Adams of Chicopee, Mass., to his family, Feb. 8 - Sept. 9, 1863, while serving with the 41st Mass. Infantry (which became the 3rd Mass. Cavalry in June 1863). Henry was on duty in Baton Rouge and Port Hudson, La. and his letters describe camp life, mood of his regiment, Teche County campaign, Siege of Port Hudson, supplies, and his response to hearing of the fall of Vicksburg, Miss., among other topics. Also includes Henry's commissions, Sept. 5-8, 1862; and letters and documents regarding his honorable discharge, 1863-69.
